Originally from North Yorkshire, with a creative family background of Artists and equestrian enthusiasts, Melanie has loved drawing and painting landscapes, people and horses, for as long as she can remember. She studied and worked in textile and interior design initially, then went on to train in portraiture and life painting, at post graduate level, at Heatherleys School of Fine Art, London. After running a successful portrait and teaching studio in London for several years, she relocated to The Cotswolds, in 2008.
Here, her rural background influences and continued passion for painting outside, in nature, came further into play, and freshly inspired, her artwork has flourished as she expands both her practice and creative journey. She is a familiar sight, sketching out in the landscape, at racing stables and equestrian events, sometimes with a group of students.
Melanie’s artworks are exhibited in London and the UK, (see biography) and collected internationally. Her painting and teaching practice is based in Oxfordshire, and in recent years she has greatly enjoyed exploring the racing world, with some stimulating Artist in Residence placements. The studio in Chipping Norton, is occasionally open, informally, to visitors, by appointment. A friendly welcome awaits, from the artist and her adored whippet, with framed paintings, sketchbooks and works in progress on view.
