Melanie holds an initial sitting at her studio or in the client's home where she takes time to study and photograph the subject, making notes and discussing the details of the commission e.g size, medium etc.
This is followed up with a meeting to look through the photographs, which will include images of different angles and expressions. A decision may then be made as to the desired pose. Melanie then starts the portrait in the studio and works it up to a certain stage before arranging two further sittings where the portrait will be completed from life.
Commission Fees:
Adults and Children (head and shoulder)
Drawings: Charcoal, pencil and sanguine from £950.
Colour Pastels and Watercolours from £1400.
Oils on canvas from £3000.
Melanie likes to spend time observing and handling the horse, and to watch it being ridden. She will take multiple photographs of the subject to establish what type of portrait is desired. This may be a head portrait, a scene in the stable yard or an image of the horse and rider in action. Sketches may also be made at this stage.
This is followed up by a meeting to discuss the preferred type of portrait, size and medium. Preliminary sketches to establish colouring etc may then be considered before going on to working on the final portrait.
Melanie will then complete the portrait at her studio.
